5 Simple Ways to Unclog a Drain
Before calling a plumber, try these easy DIY methods to clear a stubborn clog.
1. The Plunger
A simple cup plunger is often the best tool for the job. Ensure there's enough water to cover the bell of the plunger, create a tight seal, and push vigorously.
2. Baking Soda and Vinegar
Pour 1/2 cup of baking soda followed by 1/2 cup of white vinegar down the drain. Cover it and let it sit for 15-30 minutes, then flush with hot water.
3. Boiling Water
Boil water and pour it slowly down the drain in two to three stages, allowing the hot water to work for a few seconds in between each pour. Do not use this method on PVC pipes.
4. The Wire Hanger
Straighten out a regular wire coat hanger and bend one end to create a small hook. Carefully push it down the drain and fish out any hair or debris.
